Weekly Horoscope: December 9-15, 2024

In the leadup to Sunday’s hyperactive Full Moon, it’s a mixed bag of subtle movements and opportunities for meaningful connection, though some turbulence midweek might throw us off.

On Monday, the Moon enters active Aries, helping us to hit the deck running. It forms favourable alliances with other planets as it progresses, making it an excellent time for connecting with people, especially those in high positions. But with Mercury retrograde, it’s best to make no firm commitments.

The sunny aspects continue on Tuesday, further bolstered by the Sun’s trine to planetoid Chiron. This aspect of harmony bodes well for making the most of Sol in Sagittarius’ desire for wide-open perspectives and vaster beliefs of what is possible, for the smaller heavenly object in Aries imparts greater courage in facing our fears.

Harmony feels elusive on Wednesday, December 11. The Moon does shift into peace-loving Taurus late morning, but immediately clashes with powermonger Pluto. And later it tangles with both Venus (relating) and Mars (asserting).

All this is leading up to a tense opposition between the goddess of love and god of war, exact early Thursday. This volatile combination can up the ante in all kinds of relationships, sparking simple disagreements into full-out battle. The main trigger: Mars is in Leo, an ego-drive sign that needs lots of attention while Venus in Aquarius is more about community and the good of the whole. Lovers tiffs are almost inevitable (as is makeup sex), and it may be time to discuss balancing autonomy versus closeness needs.

This opposition brings great tension, and also the possibility of other ways to channel it. We can gain greater awareness of what we desire in our lives and relationships and self-expression. Surges of creativity and passion can be directed towards positive outlets.

Messaging can be sweet on Friday the 13th. Mercury in Sagittarius, nearing the end of its retrograde phase, forms a sextile aspect with Venus in Aquarius. It’s a good day for socializing or scheduling meetings. But with both Mercury and Mars retrograde, include contingencies for all start times as delays are likely.

The weekend kicks off with the Moon in lively and sociable Gemini. A morning encounter with Saturn may find us feeling the holiday season overwhelm. It’s a good time to tend to chores and to fulfilling responsibilities. Later, the mood lightens considerably and a lighthearted conjunction with party-hearty Jupiter could mean some fun and impromptu get-togethers.

A Full Moon lights up the early morning sky on Sunday at 4:01 a.m. EST in airy, mental Gemini (23°52') perfectly complementing fiery, inspirational Sagittarius. What it’s illuminating: A need to find a balance between reason and higher knowing, between the acquisition of information and seeing the big picture.  It may bring revelations that help us open to possibilities beyond our usual mindset.

Erratic Uranus forms destabilizing aspects as well, which can lean do impulsive and disruptive behaviour around us. As well, the Sun and Moon square Neptune in Pisces, which can stir a deep desire for a twin soul. However, this aspect also can evoke confusion that makes clear, logical decisions difficult, so it might be best to maintain healthy skepticism in any and all dealings. People may be giving us mixed signals or be outright deceptive, further complicating matters. Communications also are more confused, given that Mercury is still retrograde.

Mid-afternoon, the winged messenger stations direct, completing a three-week retrograde phase. But this is not the green light to charge ahead with plans and ideas. It will take time to get in high gear, but expect an easing in travel and mail restrictions. Plus Mars is retrograde (until February 23), so it’s best refrain from implementing entirely new endeavors. Best results are achieved by focusing on previous projects, at least for the short-term. For this day especially it might be best to schedule as little as possible, content to drift and dream and rest up.
