This week brings the astrological (and meteorological) New Year and the launch of a high-energy new cycle, though being in between eclipses must give us pause.
We are now in what some astrologers call the "eclipse corridor," the two-week period between two eclipses (they always travel in pairs). Last week it was the Lunar Eclipse, and the Solar Eclipse is due on March 29. During this time, we may feel like something is off, but can’t put our finger on what exactly that is. That’s because intense energy shifts are happening and at a deep level. I always suggest not scheduling important deadlines or signing major contracts at this time, especially with Mercury retrograde. Instead, schedule more time for meditation, therapy and other mindful pursuits. Tune into the unease and take note of new insights, messages or urges. But wait for later clarity before acting.
On Monday, the Moon is in soulful Scorpio while the Sun in Pisces also conjoins the karmic North Node. Our hearts simply are not into the return to the workweek and mundane matters. Instead, we may feel a strong call ponder higher matters such as finding life purpose or demonstrating more compassion. But with retrograde Mercury semisquare erratic Uranus, we may feel jittery and find it hard to concentrate, and that we’re easily distracted. New information and insights can benefit us in the end, though.
On Tuesday, Luna makes more helpful allies in the sky. It first shakes hands with active Mars, helping us to get a lot off our plates (and chests) and feel good doing it. Cooperation is easier to come by, especially from family members. Later, a tie to Saturn helps to solidify any gains.
The trend continues on Wednesday, though this time the Moon makes a flowing trine to both the Sun and Neptune on their last day in the sign of Pisces. This is an uplifting and inspiring period for forging deep emotional ties and depth psychological or metaphysical insights. Artists, especially dancers, abstract fine artists and filmmakers, may find their work takes on a life of its own. But with both Venus and Mercury retrograde, perhaps revisiting previous oeuvres is the best way to go.
Thursday, March 20, marks the spring equinox and International Astrology Day as the Sun enters the sign of Aries at 5:01 am EDT. With hours of daylight and darkness nearly equal, symbolically this is a time to reflect on how we might establish more balance in our lives. And, since this turning point also initiates the time of fire-sign Aries, take action to make it happen.
Because this year it falls in the middle of the eclipse corridor, we may find this an important time, perhaps a major turning point in our lives. For this reason, I think it’s important to take it easy this week and exert some extra TLC on yourself and others. When feelings of being out of whack arise, stop and take a deep breath. Tune into what’s need to maintain physical and emotional wellbeing.
The weekend outlook is dominated by Venus, who moves romance, pleasure, money and creative matters to the top of the agenda. In advance, on Friday the love goddess makes nice with power-player Pluto. This is an excellent day to schedule meetings with people in charge, especially difficult ones. We also have a chance to create greater depth, clarity and understanding in all relationships. But with Venus retrograding, it is perhaps best to focus on reconciliation or mending old fences.
On Saturday, the Moon moves into dour Capricorn, putting a damper on our mood early in the day. By the afternoon, though, a vibrant Sun-Venus brings a fresh burst energy in all things Venusian (see above). In the sign of Aries, this is just the shot in the arm we need, but not a time for making long-term decisions. For those, it’s best to wait until Venus goes direct. Target after April 12.
Sunday is all about personal empowerment, with the Sun sextile Pluto. And with the Moon still in ambitious and strategic Capricorn, we may be taking a hard look at our life with an eye to making profound changes. Take notes and make a plan but wait until mid-April when eclipse season is over to launch.
